3 Things To Consider When Choosing an Elopement Photographer

The Blog

Choosing the right photographer for your elopement is just as important as deciding to elope in the first place. And finding the right photographer can be tough.

There’s many things to consider when it comes to choosing the right photographer who will capture your day as you want it to be captured and this blog post will navigate some of those things. This list should help you narrow down your potential list of elopement photographers!

#1 – Recommendations From Friends & Family

Start asking friends and family who they used as a photographer for their day, and if that photographer could ever do an elopement. A quick Google search of an elopement photographer in your area could produce good (but potentially MANY) results.

Your friends and family can share about their experience with that photographer, things they may have liked (or not liked).

You can also spend time looking on social media, whether it is Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook or Tiktok. Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook can help you find photographs whereas Reels or Tiktoks can help you see and determine personality, both of which are important for your very special day.

#2 Determine what is most important to you when it comes to your photographer

This is really important. It is important to know that every photographer has their own personality, style, and flair.

Best Fit #1: The Editing Style

If you want photographs that are light and airy, perhaps lean away from choosing a photographer who edits their photos to be dark and moody. If you find yourself scrolling and scrolling and scrolling through their photos, really falling in love with their style, chances are you like their personal editing style.

Best Fit #2: Experience

The truth is, you should probably look for a photographer who has plenty of elopements under their belt, especially if you are able to find one who shoots the style or kind of elopement that you love. For example, if you want an adventure elopement, you should find a photographer who is game for an adventure.

In addition, picking a photographer who can double as a planner, location scouter, and all-around-go-to-person is HIGHLY important.

Best Fit #3: Personality & Vibe

One majorly important thing to consider when it comes to choosing an elopement photographer is their personality and vibe. You are going to be spending a substantial amount of time with this person, who will be documenting a day of high importance to you, your partner, and your loved ones.

Asking yourself if you like the elopement photographer as a human being, their personality and their vibe are crucial to making an informed decision.

#3 Packages That Work With You And For You

When choosing an elopement photographer, it is really important you pick one that has a package that works WITH you and FOR you, factoring in everything you would need to feel at peace in your decision. In addition, you could ask what is included in their elopement packages, to see if you are able to get more than just coverage on your elopement day!
