Over on The Blog this month, we talked a lot about family dynamics when it comes to eloping.
We talked about whether you should tell your family you’re eloping or not.
We talked about how to actually go about telling your family and friends you’re eloping if you’ve decided to do so.
And I provided you with 5 meaningful ways to include your family in your elopement.
The reason I wanted to do that was to remind you that eloping doesn’t have to hurt people’s feelings, especially those you love.
Here are three reasons why eloping doesn’t have to hurt people’s feelings.
Reason #1: If done well, telling people you are eloping can bring you closer together.
The truth is: those who want to celebrate you will celebrate you within your relational boundaries. Once you explain your reasons for eloping to your family and friends, they will see that it is not personal for them, but personal for you and your partner.
Inviting them to be part of your elopement planning process, or even throwing a party afterwards, allows you to get the day of your dreams while including your family in a way that works for everyone.
Reason #2: You have the final say on what your day will or will not look like while still inviting people you love into your process.
The truth is, the pressure that comes with family and friend dynamics might be an inevitable part of your elopement day process, but perhaps in a lesser extreme. Opinions regarding your day may still arise, but they will be less unsolicited. You will be inviting people you love into your process, and their thoughts and feelings about it will come with that invitation. It allows you to have the final say on what your day will or will not look like while still inviting people you love into your process.
Reason #3: Intentionality and authenticity goes a long way.
Be intentional with your family and friends. If it were you, how would you want to be treated? And remain authentic as you explain your heart behind WHY you want to elope.
You’d be surprised just how far intentionality and authenticity can go.
