How to Elope in Tasmania

The Blog

This guide will cover the best of the best (in my opinion!) in a guide on how to elope in Tasmania, Australia.

WHERE

Choosing WHERE to elope is kind of the main event of an elopement – picking a place in Tasmania can feel simple and overwhelming all at once, considering the many beautiful places and spaces to choose from.

Thalia Haven

Location: Thalia is situated on the East Coast of Tasmania between the towns of Orford and Swansea.

Website: https://thaliahaven.au/

“Thalia Haven is set on a private 130-acre wooded peninsula surrounded by the crystal-blue waters of renowned Great Oyster Bay. Experience Tasmania’s wild East Coast from a unique perspective. Five kilometres of secluded coastline including your own exclusive golden-sand beach. Accommodation is in four ancient-stone bedrooms clustered around olive-tree courtyards on the ocean’s edge. The residence is a bold yet congenial showcase of self reliance: your water, electricity, and warmth are drawn from its land, breezes, and sunshine. Rustic, yes, but fear not: all the comforts you will need to relax, enjoy, and explore are at hand. An easy drive from Tasmania’s main airports.”

Captains Rest

Location: Lettes Bay Historical Village, Strahan Tasmania

Website: https://www.captainsrest.com/

Check out this location on Airbnb here

“Captains Rest is a heritage gem of Tasmania. Our bed looks out the antique windows to the old jetty and the still water — as a deep bath with unlimited hot water. She’s cozy with everything we need to luxuriate, and the Nectre wood stove keeps us warm year round.

As featured in Country Style, Real Living, Home Beautiful, Good Weekend Magazine, Living Etc UK, Design Sponge, Condè Nast Traveler, Milk Decoration France, Australian Top Homes, Vanity Fair, Qantas May and Escape Magazine.

Captains Rest is an award winning, iconic stay known around the world. By best selling Author, Designer and Teacher — Sarah Andrews, aka The Hosting Masterclass. It boasts some of the best views possible, in the pristine World Heritage Forest.

An experience of a lifetime.”

Felon’s Corner

Location: Sheffield, Tasmania, Australia

Check out this location on Airbnb here

“Felons Corner by Van Diemen Rise.

90 acres of dark forest, lofty views and rolling meadows overshadowed by a brooding mountain-scape.

Out of the tree-line, a boutique cabin is worked into the fabric of the wilderness and walks the dangerous divide between hunting hideaway, industrial chic and unapologetic luxury.

Follow the story @vandiemenrise”

Cradle Mountain

Location: 3816 Cradle Mountain Road, Cradle Mountain, TAS 7306 Australia
Website:https://www.cradlevillage.com.au/

“Cradle Mountain Wilderness Village is situated in temperate rainforest in Cradle Valley on the edge of the World Heritage listed Cradle Mountain/Lake St Clair National Park in Tasmania. We offer a range of self-contained accommodation to suit both couples and families looking for the perfect get away. Whether it be exploring the National Park and native wildlife or sitting back and enjoying a glass of Tasmanian wine while immersing yourself in the natural surrounds, the Village offers the best of both worlds.”

PERMITS

You will need to pay for a permit & park pass if eloping in a National Park. You can find all of the information you’ll need on that right here

WHEN

Choosing when to elope, especially in Tasmania, is kind of a big deal. My professional recommendation?

March-May. It is less crowded which means more privacy, especially at places like hiking trails or outdoor spaces. And the best time? Mid-week, Monday-Friday.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT PHOTOGRAPHER

When it comes to choosing an elopement photographer it’s important you love their work, but also their personality and vibe. You are going to be spending a substantial amount of time with this person, who will be documenting a day of high importance to you, your partner, and your loved ones. Asking yourself if you like the elopement photographer as a human being, their personality and their vibe are crucial to making an informed decision.

It’s also important to invest in a photographer who has experience capturing elopements. Eloping is much different from a traditional wedding day. An experienced photographer who specialises in elopements will be able to guide you throughout the journey, and not miss documenting any important moments.
